Climate Cooperation

Article 6 of the Paris Agreement enables countries to cooperate on climate action by using carbon market approaches to trade internationally transferred mitigation outcomes (Articles 6.2) and  to trade high-integrity carbon credits through the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (Article 6.4). This cooperation can help countries achieve their Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets, promote sustainable development, and increase overall ambition.

As part of the UNEP Climate Change Division, the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) draws on extensive experience with the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to track Article 6 activities across sectors and countries. The Article 6 Pipeline makes data accessible and shows how climate actions under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement contribute to national and global climate and sustainable development goals.

Article 6 Pipeline

The pipeline is an online data platform enabling users to track progress across Article 6.2 Cooperative Approaches and the Article 6.4 Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM).
Interactive maps, dashboards and country data allow users to explore activities by region, sector, types and sub-types of mitigation technologies and methodologies. The platform provides data and analysis on bilateral agreements, DNA status, CDM transition and sustainable development to promote knowledge sharing across the Article 6 landscape.
